County Clerk's Office and Record Search

The Chenango County Clerk's Office is at the County Office Building, 5 Court Street, Norwich, NY 13815. County Clerk Hon. Brian F. Wessels can be reached at (607) 337-1451. The office uses an eSearch program through COTT Systems for online records access. The office accepts credit cards (with a 2.65% convenience fee, minimum $1.00), cash, and checks.

Important to note: for NYSCEF e-filed cases started on or after December 26, 2022, the public records search database will not show full case dockets. You must search in NYSCEF under "Search as Guest" for those cases. The Clerk's Office maintains civil court records but not criminal records, which are kept by the County Court.

The Clerk's Office will perform criminal record searches on written request with payment of the right fees. Results typically come back in 5 to 10 business days. The office does not guarantee finding records if you give limited information. Requests can be submitted in person or by mail. Historical records include deeds and mortgages from 1798 to present, survey maps from about 1810, military discharges from 1865 (sealed for 100 years), census books from 1850 to 1925, and naturalization records from 1859 to the late 1980s.
