Sealing Laws and Wyoming County Felony Records

The Clean Slate Act took effect November 16, 2024. OCA has up to three years to set up automatic sealing. Misdemeanor convictions will seal 3 years after the sentence ends. Felonies seal after 8 years. Sex offenses and non-drug Class A felonies like murder are excluded. Records that will eventually qualify for sealing still show up in searches until the system is fully running.

CPL Section 160.50 seals dismissed cases automatically. CPL Section 160.59 lets eligible people petition to seal older convictions after 10 years. CPL Section 160.58 covers certain drug convictions after treatment program completion. CPL Section 720.35 keeps youthful offender records from public view. Correction Law Section 9 tells DOCCS to remove public information 3 years after someone completes their sentence. All of these rules apply in Wyoming County just as they do across the rest of the state.
